Regional Director

Dr.Suresh Kumar Tripathy received his Graduation degree from Sambalpur University and later joined Kurukshetra University for his M.A, M.Phil and Ph.D. He started his carreer as a lecturer in Mohatma Gandhi College,Bhukta in Bargarh District of Odisha from 2nd January 1987 and worked there until he got in to IGNOU as Asst.Regional Director in 24th March,1994. He joined Regional Centre Bhubaneswar which was an emerging Centre with a set of dedicated staff working for extending the outreach of IGNOU in every corner of the state. He plunged in to this noble endeavour and contributed immensely in making IGNOU a house hold name in the State of Odisha. Due to his hard work and relentless contribution to IGNOU, he was elevated to the position of Deputy Director in 2003. He remained in charge of Bhubaneswar Regional Centre for two terms and finally became Regional Director on 2nd December,2008. During his tenure as the Regional Director a number of study centres have been established and all the 21districts under RC Bhubaneswar have been covered. The student strength which was oscillating between 15000 and 16000 ,crossed 20000 mark under his tenure. A State of the Art Regional Centre building with four floors has been raised at Bhubaneswar with all modern facilities for providing support services to the people of Odisha and Dr.Tripathy is instrumental in this endeavour. He also successfully negotiated with the District Magistrate Phulbani and managed to get Two Twin Staff Quarters free of cost in the Govt. College Campus Phulbani for running the Sub-Regional Centre Kandhamal. He has established very good rapport and successfully collaborated with a number of Governmental and Nongovernmental Organisation in spreading the network of IGNOU. It is due to his untiring effort that RC Bhubaneswar got Gold Medal for the second time in 2010 and due to his service to the state, the Rajiv Gandhi Forum, a constituent unit of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, NewDelhi has conferred on him the Best Educationist Award. The State council for Artistic Research and Training, Odisha has also conferred on him the SCART award in Education on 14.4.15 at Cuttack. Dr. Tripathy, not only proved himself in the field of educational Administration, he also proved himself as a teacher during his short stint as a lecturer in M.G.College. He has participated in a number of National and International Seminars and published some good papers. He has produced and participated many Television programmes and delivered talks in AIR extensively.

Dr.Tripathy has joined as the new Regional Director of RC Koraput on 2nd July 2014, the Regional centre which began its operation under his stewardship way back in 1994.
